Synopsis
Sara, a transgender woman goes back to her remote hometown to attend her father’s funeral. Her mother suffers from dementia and treats her like a stranger, and the villagers have become extremely religious. The film has been praised for its sensitivity and emotional depth, addressing issues of personal acceptance within a rigid social context like the one that we are given to know.
Director
Ismail Basbeth born in Wonosobo, Indonesia in 1985, he is a director, producer, artist, writer and singer-songwriter. He studied at the Berlinale Talent Campus in Germany and at the Asian Film Academy in Busan. Basbeth has directed several feature films such as Another Trip to the Moon (2015), The Crescent Moon (2015) and The Carousel Never Stops Running (2017).
