Synopsis

In Pieta (2023), Rebecca Bernabe and Isaac Bernabe, mother and son, meet eighteen years later, after the latter’s time in prison. The long-awaited reunion is not without its setbacks for the protagonist. Rebecca is now a blind old woman who suffers from Alzheimer and cannot remember her son. Isaac will have to cope with the disease. Under these circumstances, mother and son will struggle not only to deal with the wounds of memory, but also to heal the wounds of the heart.

Director

Adolfo Alix Jr. is a Filipino film director and screenwriter, known for his social dramas. Throughout his career, he has stood out both in his country’s independent cinema and in international film festivals, with his personal style and a narrative that basically explores human psychology and interpersonal relationships. Among his most notable works are Muli (2010), Death March (2013) and Donsol (2006), where he appears as an influential and established figure in the contemporary Philippine film scene. His latest film is Pieta (2023).
