Synopsis
Love is a Gun (2023) is the idyll between the camera and The Sweet Potato, its protagonist. Since his release from prison, The Sweet Potato has been content to run a small business selling umbrellas with little income by the sea, ignoring the advice of others. This humble lifestyle is his way of overcoming a checkered past. However, his mother’s call for help is a turning point and a return to Taipei, the city of doom for the protagonist. His intermittent girlfriend Lulu and childhood friend Seven are also part of the narrative oscillations that shape the film’s atmosphere and merge with the character’s psyche. A question echoes in the background: is love as reckless an act as pulling a trigger?
