Synopsis
Lola Magdalena portrays the story of five prostitutes who live together in a run-down house. Despite their advanced age, they continue to practice prostitution along a bridge that remains a meeting point. The story revolves around Dalena. During the day she is dedicated to traditional healing of albularyo, and during the night she is a prostitute. It is said that she has been possessed by Mary Magdalene. Life has never been easy for any of them, but they never lose hope.
Director
Joel C. Lamangan is an award-winning director who trained in the Philippines and abroad. He has acted and directed for both theatre and television. He made his directorial debut in 1991 with Darna. His most notable films include The Flor Contemplation Story (1995), which won a Golden Pyramid Award and the “Best Actress” award at the Cairo International Film Festival. In 2014, his film Hustisya (Justice) won the “Best Actress” award at the Netpac Awards at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. It was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and competed against the best films at the Warsaw (Poland) and Nantes (France) festivals.
