Synopsis
Lesson (2023) is a romance drama whose protagonist, an English teacher, finds himself trapped by his lover who keeps pressuring him to marry her. Unsure of his commitment to Seon-Hee, Kyung-min begins tutoring Young-won, a piano teacher with a carefree approach to relationships. Through the class exchange, Kyung-min and Young-Won begin a deep connection that leads him to question his current life. As he becomes involved with Young-Won, he must face familiar situations and question his own behavioural patterns, doubts about commitment, and the nature of his true desires.
Director
Kim Kyung-rae, born in 1986 and a graduate of Media Studies from Soongsil University, is a South Korean filmmaker who rose to popularity following Film for Coming Winter (2021), his first feature film, which stood out on the circuit of several international festivals. His latest work, Lesson (2023), continues to explore South Korean existential themes and has established Kim as a promising voice in South Korean independent cinema. In addition to his festival success, his work is characterized by subtle and poetic direction, reflecting influences from Asian arthouse cinema.
