Synopsis

The film is based on true stories related to the so-called “bride kidnapping”, a tradition that allows men to abduct and force women to marry them. A girl who aspires to work as a nurse and gets the position is the victim of such a kidnapping, despite being in love with another man.

Director

Mirlan Abdykalykov (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, 1982) is a Kyrgyz director and screenwriter who studied at the Faculty of Film and Television in Saint Petersburg. His interest in social dramas is behind Running to the Sky (2012) and The Old Man (2018), as well as his most recent work, Bride Kidnapping (2023), where he pays special attention to the social context of Kyrgyzstan. Abdykalykov has been recognized at international festivals for his contribution to making his country known through the moving image and for his contribution to the identity of contemporary Kyrgyz cinema.
